RE5 Suzuki Fairing

Post by oldjapanesebikes »

Does anyone have some information, and perhaps a few photos of the Suzuki fairing that was sold around 1976 or so to fit the RE5 ? Its an odd looking thing (see photo here), with the Suzuki 'S' on the side cover pockets. I'm interested in how it was mounted, and what the headlight assembly looked like. Thanks !

Hey nice pic Dave, the fairings still ugly though.
There was one at Barbers meet last year on a sad looking 76 RE that was there in the swap meet section.
I remember the 's' covers on the storage doors but the shield was missing, Ian what are you planning??? one of those for the Buffalo???

That is the plan, but we will see.

Fred passed along one of his to me, so I'm considering putting it on the 1973 GT750 I'm doing currently. These fairings are rare, so it seems a shame to not use it, even if some folks are unable to appreciate the tasteful grace and style inherent in its design ! :D :D :D

Is the clear shield any good or will you have to get one made.

Allan - the wind screen is in good shape, as are the two side hard covers with the 'S'. There are some cosmetic issues, but they are manageable.

As I mentioned in my start to the thread, what I'd be interested in are some more photos showing the headlamp mounting - mine is missing. Before I fab something up I was just interested in possibly seeing what it originally looked like. Also, while less of an issue, more photos of the actual fairing mounting if anyone has any would be nice - I made my last set from memory for my Vetter fairing mount, so I'm not fussed if I have to fab my own - it would just be kind of nice to know what the original looked like so I could possibly get close to the original look. Even better would be getting hooked up to someone who has one on their bike that I could talk to.

Dave - great photo - you wouldn't happen to have a name to go with it would you ?

Thanks Dave - I'm in contact with the folks at the new Rotary Recycle in Tennesee, and actually plan to stop in there in about 2 weeks - possibly they can help.

The link to the site with the RE5 showing the wide screen, it appears the owners son thinks it was taken near Trail in B.C.
Sadly the pictures of the bike are not clear and show no mounting bracket angles.

Correct Allan - I've already corresponded with the family and also the former owner, but the bike was actually sold many years ago and they had no additional information.

Just heard back from Rotary Recycle and they have everything I need, including a new headlight bucket for the fairing. I'll be there in two weeks to pick it up, plus some bits for Fred.
