GT500:Will T500 carbs work on it?

For those wanting to keep their bike the way the factory made them.

GT500:Will T500 carbs work on it?

Post by GT500-2stroke »

Hi,

Will 1970 T500 carbs work on 1975 GT500?

I have opportunity to buy 1970 T500 carbs, which were removed from running bike.
I am trying to decide if these will work on my 75 GT500.

T500 carbs looks like in better condition than mine, and I
want to make sure if I decide to buy, I should not have to worry too much.

So, what do you think?

( While I am deciding, I will start working on cleaning my GT500 carbs.
Not sure what parts I will need to make them working. )

Have a look here. I think yes but you may have to change the jets over

I believe the 70 T500 used homo pressure carbs, they were not vented externally, jetting goes by a totally different scale than later carbs, it is not a matter of putting GT500 jets in them.
I don't know if they would fit or not, but I would try and stick with later style carbs.

Don't put the (later) GT500 jetting in and early (pre-1973) carb. Karl Pa is correct.

Will it work? Mostly. It will run, and be rideable. But there will likely be pesky times where it just won't run exactly as you would like.
