GT 380 Points Cam Setup HELP!
Okay, I'm new to this forum/site so pardon any blatant newbie errors. This bike is a friends that we have been working on and need some help. We have "reasonable" mechanical skills but not much in the two stroke area.... We have hit a wall on this. SOMEONE took the points and cam setup apart years ago and there are some missing parts that I am not even sure how to ID or find. Ordered a new plastic gear and shaft from Ebay however looking at the Clymer manual it looks like there is some sort of spacer missing and a "clip"...... Not sure if we have the right gear as it seems their may be some made of metal as well.
I have attached a photo of what we have so far.....

Hi Cargo,
welcome to the site and to the joys of GT380 ownership. It is a bit hard to tell anything from such a small picture. Can you post a larger image?
I too have a GT380. Mine is a 1975 M model. What age is yours?

you may find this pic useful in identifying missing parts
this is a pic of the Denso ignition system
Some gt380 had a different system. Here is a pic of the Kokusan points system

Thanks! This is a 72 vintage bike. I had to resize my photo down to get it to post and must have gotten it too small. I'll make a second attempt this afternoon.

Re: GT 380 Points Cam Setup HELP!
I have the Clymer manual for the bike. Without looking at the image in it I think this may be a different exploded view of the parts layout. The plate and all the points are still with the bike but the cam setup had been disassembled long ago. I am having a terribly difficult time trying to resize photos to meet the 1200X1200 Pixel count....still trying.

There are mistakes in these parts catalogue pictures.
The "FWD" Arrows show backward in both pictures.
In the Denso ignition picture the whole points plate is mirrored.

Okay, it looks like we have Denso ignition. Does anyone have a photo of that cam and gear assembly? Here is what I have.

Re: GT 380 Points Cam Setup HELP!
It would appear that you need the following parts
025 BEARING (08123-62027)
Old Part Number 08113-62020
026 CIRCLIP (08331-41359)
Old Part Number 08331-21358
030 OIL SEAL (20X35X7) (09283-20024)
032 NUT (08310-00107)
Old Part Number 08312-12108
033 LOCK WASHER (08321-01107)
Old Part Number 08321-21108
034 WASHER (08322-0110A)
Old Part Number 08322-21108
016 WASHER (08322-0110A)
Old Part Number 08322-11108
017 LOCK WASHER (08321-01107)
Old Part Number 08321-21108
and possibly the outer bush, although you have not pictured this. It may be you have it still in the casing. If so, you don't need this item unless your old one is badly worn.
029 BUSHING (8X14X10) - SORRY NO LONGER AVAILABLE (DISCONTINUED)
Old Part Number 09300-08011
It is hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like you have some corrosion on the points cam. In which case you will need that replacing (a rusty cam will wear your points heel out prematurely).
002 Denso CONTACT BREAKER CAM - SORRY NO LONGER AVAILABLE (DISCONTINUED)
Old Part Number 33122-33010
or
010 Kokusan CONTACT BREAKER CAM (33122-33020)
I hope that is of some help to you.
Regards
Tom

Re: GT 380 Points Cam Setup HELP!
Thanks! Some of the parts you listed are probably in the case, like the bearing and oil seal. I didn't show that. I'll try and get a photo just to make sure we are talking the same language. There is a pressed in bronze bearing/bushing in the main case too.
