AS50 conversion to premix.

For those wanting to keep their bike the way the factory made them.

AS50 conversion to premix.

Post by joolstacho »

My AS50 oil pump needs a seal kit, -leaking oil down into the sump by the looks of it.
I got a seal kit, but some of the seals / o-rings are incorrect size.
So I'm thinking of just blanking off the oil pump delivery and running premix.
Anyone done this on the A50 or AS50 ?
I'm pretty sure it'll be okay, but just want to make sure that the oil doesn't need pumping to the mainbearing area as well (like the GT500 for example).

Per the brochure on SuzukiCycles.org, oil is directly pumped to the crank bearings.

hmmm... I wonder if 68 and 70 oil pumps are different. My pump is a Mikuni 1M-4. Bike is 68.
I can't find any seals kit apart from the kit I already bought which has different orings and seals.
Looks like theres a direct oil feed to the big end and mains so premix might be a bit risky.

The T250/T350/T500/GT250/GT500 oil pump uses standard o-rings & oil seals. All of them are still available.
Your pump probably also uses standard o-rings & oil seals.
They can be a PITA to find but it should be doable.

It may be worth contacting a company that sells o rings and give them the specifications. Just make sure they are 'Viton' that will ensure they resist oil/petrol. How about these http://www.sealingaustralia.com.au/orings/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yes the o-rings should be 'gettable', but there are a couple of double-lipped seals on the central part (piston?) that look to be very specific, and important seals. They're about 10mm OD and with the seal 'lips' on the OUTSIDE. I can try an O-ring in one of these positions because it sits in a groove, but on the other position an o-ring wouldn't work because there's nothing to contain it in position. I might take a pic to clarify.
(That Sealings Australia site looks useful).

Suzuki AS50 or A50 - Anyone got a parts list for 1968 model?
I need the part number for the OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY. And/or if it's possible, a copy of the parts listing which shows the seals and their sizes.

Note that I can find the 1971 parts list online, but I think that the '68 oil pump MAY be different.
I want to clear this up because the feller who sold me the incorrect seals kit advertises it as correct for AS50 but the pack says only 'A100 FR80 RC100'. His Suzuki Part number is 16001-05826, but I am expecting the '68 part number will be different.

Look closely at the seals to see if there are any numbers. (You might have to remove the seal to see them.)

Your best bet is to buy a printed parts manual.

Paul Miller has a 1986-1971 parts & service manual listed on eBay:

The New Zealand eBay seller that sells manual might also have something.

Well, thanks mate, but that'd cost me close to A$100 just to get that simple info.
Hopefully someone is out there who would share.

Regarding the seals markings, I don't know if you've ever seen the size of them, but a couple of the seals are TINY, (the ones on the 'metering rod') -if they actually could even mould in a number you'd need an electron microscope to read it!
