I'm preparing the gas tank from my 1972 GT750J for repainting. (It's badly sunbleached). Does anyone know how to get the tank badges off?

You have to get something like a paint scraper behind them, there is a clip near each end that has to be pried out. Once you get them off you will see the "nuts" that latch them into the holes. You will probably bent the emblems a bit but there are not difficult to straighten. Just be careful and take your time.

Thanks for the advice. The badges came off exactly as promised. I carefully slipped a thin paint scraper behind the tank badges and slipped it against first the front and then the rear pin. Once up against the pin I carefully twisted the scraper so as to lever up as close to the pin as possible. First one end of the badge and then the other. I managed to not bend the badge or the pins. Here's some photos in case someone else encounters this task.

ok - that’s how to get the badges off / does anyone know how to fix them back on - there are only two pins on the badge and they are not of the screw type so what keeps the badge falling off ?

The little “nuts” that hold the badges on are still available from Suzuki.

Managed to order the new nuts to retain the badges - they were in fact plastic clips that push into the holes in the side of the tank - was a nightmare to prise in as the repaint had closed the hole up somewhat . After carefully enlarging the holes i managed to get 3 out of 4 clips inserted ( one broke) However when offering up the badges the lugs wouldn’t clip in and the badges were not secure . Seems like i’ll have to resort to silicon or some other means of fixing them - where did i go wrong ?
