GT750 Chain Guard Interchangeability?

Post by Olafskii »

Can anyone advise on whether the steel chain guards from later models fit the 1972/1972 GT750 models? These early models were fitted with plastic chain guards (and plastic inner fenders). Mine came without a chain guard but the inner plastic fender is cracked so I suspect that this is what happened to the chain guard too.

I'm building my '72 GT750 to be a rider so a few 'cheater parts' that would loose points on a concourse restoration will be OK on my bike. Plastic GT750 chain guards for the '72/73 are still available on Ebay but the pricing for un-cracked ones is 'unfortuanate' to say the least. The later metal guards are much more available and at much more reasonable prices. If I find an old rusty chainguard I could sandblast it and apply a 'frame black' paint to get a finish that resembles the orginal plastic.

Maybe even the chain guards from the GT550 or GT380 fit?

When purchased my 1975 GT750 had an early plastic chain guard fitted, that did not appear to have been modified in any way. I later traded it for the correct metal guard.

Not sure about interchangeability with other models but you could cross reference part numbers through Alphasports.com or a similar site that lists genuine Suzuki parts. Even if NLA the part numbers should be listed.
No really... it's supposed to smoke.

Good suggestion. Alpha Sport has a good website--easy to follow. Thanks.
