T500 Serial Numbers

Post by friendoffew »

Hi.I want to restore a T500 I have owned since 1976. purchased it for a carton of beer and kept it since. I can't find the year of manufacture on the identification plate nor the serial number on any web sites. The matching frame and engine numbers are 30173. I was missing the fuel tank when i picked it up so if I can identify the year I can get the right parts.

My best guess this morning is 1970. Still drinking my first cup of coffee. :wth:

No tank, but does it have the side cover or oil tank badges? If so, that and color (if still stock) would help.

Based my guess on the following:

Thanks for that. The colour is sort of gold. Faded a lot, but goldish. The bike was used as a racer. The mechanic had it in pieces under his bench. Only the oil tank remained with colour. I have purchased new bars, instruments,Cables and covers over the years but never confirmed the year. Put it all together and rode it once. proceeded to pull it down again to restore it. And here I am 38 years later getting back into it. The new parts look identical to the old but I probably now have a bitser. I do have the original guards and exhaust. Probably not worth the effort financially but why keep something that long and then toss it. Will post photos as it goes together if you wish.

If it is the stock paint (Candy Gold), another indication that it is likely an early 1970 T500.

I have a couple of T500s with matching engine and frame numbers:

- T500J -55683
- T500K -60819 (build date Sept/72)

You can add these to your list.

Cheers
