Removing Suzuki tank badge

Post by Admin »

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to remove the Suzuki tank badge off a 1972 GT750? There don't appear to be any screws holding it in place, unlike a 1975 model I had which had 2 small screws. thanks

It snaps on with two little doohickies that Suzuki called "nuts". You have to carefully pry it off. You WILL bend it, but it bends back easily.

Lane --as always -- is quite correct. You can re-apply it with two-sided auto tape.

(And the '75 has to be pried off, too. It's the '76 and '77 are held on with screws. Not that I'm anal or anything......)

I pried mine off and one of the holes in the bracket on the tank is wallowed out too big to hold the small clip or nut or whatever it is called. Will the double sided tape hold it on securely or do I have to figure out a way to fix the d$mn hole? What about putting some kind of adhesive (Black RTV maybe) in the hole and sticking the stud into it?

Also, are the clips still available, all mine were toast by the time I got them off.

Wayne, I use double-sided automotive emblem tape, and have never had a problem.

Throttle cable part number check

Post by Admin »

Can anyone tell me what model this throttle cable goes on:

P/N: 58300-30700

I bought it off eBay with the description of TS250 throttle cable. When I received it today, I was bummed that it is a single pull cable and too long even to be the top half of my '74 TS250 cable.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the info Jughead!

Yeah, I should have asked for the part number prior to bidding and winning the auction...

Anyone need a 58300-30700 throttle cable?

I checked Ron Ayers and it looks like they carry the proper throttle cable for just over $20. Let me know if you find anything in your stash. I really appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Chris

i'm pretty sure you can call Color-Rite at 1-800-736-7980 with those color codes and get the paint. at least that's what i'm trying to do for my '72 T500J (green/white).

do you show my codes in your parts book? i think the green is called Vernado Green... what are my codes?

Thanks!

For '72 the colors were "Pure White" #064, "Candy Verdoro Green" #263, and the other choice was "Pearl Orange" #264.

Are you guys planning to paint the parts yourselves? I got a quote for the two tanks and side cover for $750. I know a man's got to make a living, but that's how much I paid for the whole bike!

The other choice is to paint the '72 myself with rattle cans, but I'm concerned the paint gets damaged by gasoline. Is this true? Can you clear coat with lacquer or something?

Thanks,
Tom

Oh no no no, rattle cans are not going to do for a tank coming into contact with gasolene spills however slight they may be, all except for a few basic colours (some black and white enamels) in a few brands can tolerate gasolene for a while, but whos going to paint their tank in all white or black.
Its best to bite the bullet and have the coloured parts profesionally done in the correct colour, thats of course if you think your bikes worth it.
On average to have a tank, side covers, headlight bowl and ears painted, including the parts is about $750.00, not too bad when you think about the cost and labour involved.
