swingarm bushings

Post by joewillybob »

I keep reading about plastic swingarm bushings. I've got 4 older bikes, a 67 TC250, 71 T350,71 T500, and a 73 GT550. None of these bikes had plastic of any sort in the swingarm. Just lucky? Did someone already replace the plastic bushes? Just wondering? Thanks

My gt550 had the plastic bushings, they are pressed into either end of the pivot. Did your bikes have the bronze bushes?

All the ones I've seen standard have had plastic type bushes.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

You can see the gray plastic bushings here. When assembled it's hard to tell if they are there or not because the end caps seals everything off from dirt and debris. However you would have a significant wobble at the swingarm if they were missing.. If this isn't the case with your bikes, they are probably in there just fine.

I've had the swingarms off all of my bikes to have the frames powdercoated. After removing the dust covers, the bushings appear to be made out of some sort of metal. Doesn't appear to be bronze, looks more like pot metal. Is there any way to remove them without damaging them? Thanks

I found a GT750 swingarm with similar bushings, but no idea what year it was originally fitted to or if they were aftermarket.

 The "plastic" bushes are standard Suzuki fitment, replaced mine with genuine parts years ago & the swing arm has no sideways movement in them what's so ever, they were relatively easy to replace 8) PS old bushings cannot be reused & should be discarded
