Rear suspension wobble farm fresh gt550

Post by Cragdog »

Hello All!
So I am working on bring my recently purchased gt550 back to life, it was a total basket case when I got it, but mostly complete even if not everything was on the bike, it was in boxes (for the most part).
I noticed yesterday when I began tearing it down, that the rear suspension had a wobble to it, I looked at it a little more and noticed this:

I assume there should not be any gap between the frame and swingarm, do I just need to replace the bushings or is there more to it I'm not seeing?
Thanks!

There should be a dust seal, O ring, and thrust washer on each end of the swing arm between the swing arm and frame.
I would suggest you look for a parts catalogue on ebay and use it as a manual when you strip and rebuild the bike. I have an early one and another that covers all the later models. They are the handiest books I have bought and show 'exploded' drawings of every component on the bike. Something like THIS (clicky) although that paticular one is a tad pricy and only covers one years model, so may not be any good for yours anyway. If you find one covering several years, it shows what components fit your particular bike, and what are different.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
