GT500 Fork Tubes in GT550 Legs

GT500 Fork Tubes in GT550 Legs
I believe the question has been asked, but never really answered. I have slightly twisted '76 GT500 fork legs, so I bought '73 GT550 fork legs as replacements. The GT550 tubes and legs look somewhat similar to the the GT500, but there are some minute differences. Well, I have brand new '76 GT500 fork tubes; has anyone had success mating '73 GT550 single disk fork legs to GT500 fork tubes? The GT500 employs shorter springs and spacers at the top. The GT550 have longer springs and no spacer due to longer tubes.
