Washers...

Hi Guys,
I have removed the swing arm for cleaning and repainting, and when I took the shocks off there was an odd assortment of washers holding them on. I imagine some are original and some are bodge ups fitted over the years.

I have looked at the parts listings and it is a bit confusing as the washers seem to have been changed over the varients.

Mine is a GT550A so does anyone know what washers are required (Top and bottom) on each shock?

Kind Regards

Steve

The studs are designed to have larger washers inboard of the shocks. Use enough to make sure that the shock won't bind up with the thicker portion of the stud.

Top studs need more washers because studs were designed for mounting luggage racks & etc.

After mounting the shock, I lightly install the acorn nut to see how much of a gap there is. You need to add enough washers so that the acorn nut doesn't bottom out when you tighten it.

There is a torque spec for the acorn nuts. I use a torque wrench for the acorn nuts.

Thanks Jabcb,
I will have to experiment with the set up, as you say the washers are there to stop the mount from binding and alow free movement without too much sideways movement, and to prevent the shock from "popping" off sideways.

If you or anyone has a pic of their set up it might be a help tho.....

Kind Regards and thanks
