GT550 rear exhaust mounts and how do they fit

So one of the most perplexing things about the GT550 is why Suzuki fitted the rear pipe brackets like they did, I know they are supposed to allow for slight movement but they are more like a Chinese puzzle? Does anyone have the definitive answer of how these things work or fit together. Please don't show me the Partzilla diagram as it is as wrong as the Suzuki one, does nobody do edit checks on those things?

Hi. The exhaust mounts are in fact very similar to swingarm bushes. A metal centre pipe is surrounded by high density rubber and then encased in a larger pipe. They are very difficult to remove as they are an interference fit. Through time they weld themselves to the frame with corrosion. The best way is to use a junior hacksaw blade inserted through the hole and cut through carefully to release the bush.
To insert the bush use a long bolt and nut with big flat washers to pull it into position.
Good luck :D

I have some sketch pictures of the exhaust mounts in this directory:

(They are the same at GT380 / 550. The texts are in German.)

Amazingly helpful diagrams, can I share them with some other GT550 owners who like me are/were stumped by the way these mounts work, your easily understood diagrams are so helpful.

Feel free to share the links.
For private use, you can also forward the images directly, by email, etc.
But the direct links to pictures cannot be used on other internetpages, in forums etc., this produces error messages.

Some components are the same for all GTs, 380/550, so the following links may also be of interest

Thank you so much, you have already helped at least 3 GT550 owners sort their exhaust pipe mounts out, I don't know why this was so hard to find out, I have not posted these on any sites, just sent them individually to guys needing direction. Cheers mate, you rock.      Also I really like your wee GT250 race bike, I rebuilt a GT250 K last year, they are amazing little bikes and it was good practice for rebuilding this GT550. :D
