easiest way to check if oil is getting into the chamber

Post by Ramjam »

Hi
I'm afraid that two stroke oil is not getting into my middle cyclinder on my gt380. I can't see any blue smoke at all then it is running so I'm afraid that it is 'running' with no lube - although all six lines were just primed by me, after i left the bike for 9 months without running.

Is there are really easy way to check if oil is getting through?

thanks in advance

Crack the banjo bolts at the motor and kick it over with throttle wide open - or run it for a minute or so like that. Oil should weep out of any loose bolt. It's crude but worth a try.

A better solution is to remove the oil pump and make a test jig and drive the pump with an electric drill.

My favorite is to remove the pump and prime the lines with an oil of a very different color. Refit the pump and run it. If the lines change back to oil in the tank color, it's all good.

Thanks for this information. I just got a 1973 gt250 going and I am running everything down. Last time I was around oil injection was a little moped.
