correct oil for my 1966 Suzuki B105p

Post by flashyeight »

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of oil I should use for the transmission? Recently bought 1966 Suzuki B105p and just received the last restoration part to get the bike running and want to make sure I use the right oil.

Oh, oh.....another tranny oil thread !!! :D

I, personally, have run nothing but straight weight gear oil in all my stroker trannys (dirt and street) ever since 1974 and had excellent success. In a small engine like that, you could probably use a straight 80 weight for most riding conditions. Look for something with an SAE rating of GL-5 preferably....or GL-4 in a pinch.
If your riding habits lean toward heavy loads, long rides in sustained high ambient temperatures (80*F or more), competition use or other forms of high gear loading then you might want to consider going to an 85 or 90 weight.
Do NOT use any kind of synthetic or semi-synthetic. Those old clutch friction discs do NOT like synthetics. Use mineral-based lubes only for clutch durability and proper engagement/lock-up "feel".

Let the fun begin !!!
