'73 Suzuki GT250 drain plug location

Post by beachoysnh »

New here. We just inherited a GT250 from my father. He was a pro at these machines. I wish we could ask him all the questions we have. We are changing the oils and unfortunately have no idea what oils we just drained. There are two big plugs at the bottom of the engine. Opened those and drained oil. However, there is still oil visible at the hole for filling the transmission oil. What did we drain if that oil is still visible?

This is a time sensitive concern as we are trying to get it back into shape for the ride to the memorial 6/28.

We are ordering a manual but they only seem to be available from England.

Thanks in advance,
Beachboys

Hi!

There are two kinds of oil.

Two-stroke oil in a separate tank behind the right side panel. This is the motor oil.

Transmission oil:
Filling hole in the right gear cover.
The older models have two drain plugs for the gear oil, the models from 1976 onwards only one.

take a look at my sides: (german)

Thank you! The shop manual arrived and we were able to see how foolish this question was. It has a leveling thingy so you can't over fill the gear case. We really didn't want to hurt this machine.

Now we are having an issue with the air filter. It just won't go back on no matter how hard we tug or pry...maybe we aren't tugging hard enough.

The replacement tank was painted as close to the Hawaii Green as we could get a paint guy to match. It's gorgeous! Just a tad off, but we're going to live with it.

This bike needs to be ready to ride by 6/27 10PM to ride the following day. Trying hard to make that happen. Still need to get the tank on!

I miss my dad!

Update: boiled water and the rubber loosened...dried parts...installed with a fight and dental tools. Tomorrow is tank/petcock install, test run. Woohoo!
