Will a GT550 battery fit a GT380?
Just curious as to whether a GT550 battery will fit a GT380 without any problems with size or charging. Anyone know?

Electrically, there is usually no problem using a (slightly) higher capacity battery.
The problem is, will it physically fit? My guess is that the battery will be too tall.

GT380 12N7-4A

The higher capacity battery on the 550 is for the electric start - not needed on the 380, and they are different sizes.
136 x 90 x 155mm against 136 x 76 x 132 mm
For those still on old money, the height is the same, width just under an inch wider (550) and just over a half inch thicker (550). So I would guess one wouldn't fit a 380.

Alan, are you sure you got you LxWxH correct? I was going by what was posted in the specs at Impact Battery. To me, height is always critical, as you don't want that + terminal coming in contact under your seat. Bad things, man.

Ok. Better stick with a standard GT380 one then! Thanks for the advice guys

They have worked the sizes out a little off on the 550 battery - divide the millimetre sizes be 25.4 for inches, but mine are correct.
Same height, different width/depth.

Re: Will a GT550 battery fit a GT380?
Just had another look after cleaning my specs and realised that the sizes are LxWxH (US site) rather than HxWxL as I would expect 'over here'.Alan H wrote:Yup.ConnerVT wrote:Alan, are you sure you got you LxWxH correct?

Mea culpa for not realising.
So the height and depth are different and width is the same as the pics above show.

Re: Will a GT550 battery fit a GT380?
I use a 12N9 on my 380, it's about 10mm taller than the standard 380 12N7 battery but still fits easily. But I only do this because I'm running total-loss electrics at the moment. A fully-charged 12N9 is good for a couple of hours riding.
However, if your charging system works, there's no benefit to fitting a bigger battery.
