T500 squish heads

I purchased a set of unknown squish heads for T500 recently.

They have 15cc combustion chambers and hold 35cc when filled evenly. I didn't test the cranking compression yet (will work it out at the weekend) but I wonder, if these heads could be used on the street with pump gas.

They look exactly like the Barton heads on my bike. I fitted them 30 years ago, and have used it on "pump gas" with no ill effects ever since.

Nice find.....I would think they are as rare as hens teeth now !

Thanks for the info. Meanwhile I tested stock T500 head and got 35cc combustion chamber filled evenly.
Does the top side look similar to your Barton heads?

They are cut exactly the same as my Crooks TR500 heads.

I would need them in front of me to know, but they are on the bike ! The Barton heads are very similar to stock, and no-one would notice unless they really knew their stuff.
Zooke or Pedro will know what they are for sure !!

As I said before, nice find......rare item !

I've often wondered why Suzuki, after going to all the effort, cost and trouble of getting Ernst Degner to defect with Walter Kaaden's 2-stroke knowledge, never took advantage of the technology for its road bikes.

No squish heads, no boost ports, just plain & simple porting. Of course, the simple approach works fine and is reliable, but it would have been interesting to see how far they could have gone using some of that know-how from the track ...

There is no mention of the manufacturer's name on my heads, I was told they were Barton's when I bought them back in about 1980.

Pedro, you're correct, I got them from that particular person.

I carefully checked the heads once more but there aren't any hints about manufacturer data nor removing possible casting marks.
In fact, they have rough surface due to sand casting while factory heads look pretty smooth.
Bore size is 69,5mm (?), squish area ratio about 55 %.

I'll have the few damaged fins welded and gasket area resurfaced. Furthermore, I wonder if they are in need to be bored out due to actual cylinder bore size of 70.5mm? If I remember correctly, my bike had almost zero deck height ...

Titan P., could you please post a pic of your Barton heads?

No problem.....it will probably be monday evening before I can get pictures on though. My heads have that rough-ish, non factory finish too.....

Not easy to get a good picture, as the tank and fairing mostly obscure the heads, but you can see that the stock head has some cylindrical shapes cast into some of the fins, which the Bartons do not. Also, the Bartons have an extra fin next to the plug.

Having a nightmare trying to get pictures on......so you just have the r/h Barton.....you know what the stock one looks like !

Now I'm pretty sure the heads I have are Bartons. They have the same fin pattern with that extra fin and rough sand cast finish. And, no cylindrical shapes.

Glad to be of assistance........nice find, they must be pretty few and far between now. Were they expensive?
I fitted mine back in 1979, after bolting on a set of ported barrells. At first i used stock heads and experimented with skimming some meat off to bring compression back.....60 thou I think, but I cracked some heads, so when the Bartons came up I grabbed them, £30 back then, which was a lot of cash....no problems since though !

I spent about £150 for the whole lot containing set of heads and 3 barrels. Frankly, I've been after squish heads for a while ... I even considered buying those from Pedro. I shaved the heads 1mm on my actual T500 http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/b ... i-1651.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and it started pinging under high load unless I retarded the timing to 2,75mm.

what thickness squish have you for a road bike... 1mm ? more ?
