ts400 carb

Hey guys. First off I am new to this site. I have a soft spot for vintage 2 stroke enduros and recently saved a 77 ts400 from the scrapyard.

It is rough looking but mostly complete. I'm just trying to get it running for now and then I will figure out how I want to build it. Anyways i'm not new to 2 strokes but I have never done much part swapping.

The carb on the 77 ts400 is missing a few pieces and I really do not care for the design of it.

Can I simply substitute the carb for a traditional style vm32 carb?

Isn't it just a regular VM with push-pull throttle linkage on the side? It could be replaced with a single cable VM I would think.

Yeah, thats the kind of carb thats on it but it is missing pieces and the single cable carbs are easier to find.

You should be able to find a carb the same size and swap over your brass. The only reservation I have is wondering if there's a reason why that bike has that push-pull system. Was it for some regulation reason or is it because it sticks open when you snap the throttle closed?

That I am not sure. However the previous model ts400's did use a single cable carb looking at the parts diagrams.
