Gibsons are in the UK and will cost you handsomely to buy and ship to the US, something not for those who are on a restricted or limited budget.
Therefore Jemcos would be the next alternative within the US market,, its just one of those things.

Pete Gibson, the man behind Gibson pipes designed those and sold them as Allspeeds way back in the day. great pipes but not a whole heap of HP. Just slightly more and a whole lot better sound and less weight.

Pete is now living in Australia and is making really good custom pipes or so I hear. Stinkwheels who bought Gibson pipes are still making them and they are a good all round pipe for a street motor.

And they are in the UK as is Higgsy and his popcorn pipes (they sound like corn popping at idle).

Freight is horrendous between the UK and US for bulky items.

The best overall package is teh Lane rngdng arrangement and that includes a set of JEMCOs. Lane gets about 80HP out of Blue Boy with a mild tune and 34mm carbs. I don't know of anyone with a better package for a street bike.

Dont look now but he also is up for a photo vote on one of the sites that takes pics on the dragon. The suit was obviously the main attraction since its in the photo voting list.

Yea I'm already sold on the Jem's. I'm also going up 3 sizes in main jets and one in pilot jets to accommodate the individual fair filters and pipes. And I even remember the different size of the center jet so now it will be the same as the others. Thanks for all the help I hope to meet some of you soon so I can hang with the rest of the smokers!!

Not bad Dave at the enlargement, but this is the one that says it all.
Should we all vote for it and make him famous???

Lane's dressed like an extra from Mad Max and he's putting a Suzuki two stroke through it's paces... do you even have to ask this question!??! :D

If I was goingt o imitate someone it might be Blueboy or SuzukiDave with that sportbike conversion. But as my resources are limited to about $100 every 2 weeks and selling off original parts..... Speaking of original parts on my 72 I have the front drum brakes. I would like to try an upgrade forks and disk brakes. I have read about the XS650?? forks maybe being a replacement? I was going the route of getting a full used front end off ebay or the local yard.

You can imitate Lane's sartorial style if you like, but the reference was really to his bike Blueboy. :)

You don't have to sink a ton of money into modifying the bike, but the brakes are a great place to start. The obvious upgrade would be a set of latr model GT750 forks and front wheel or possibly a set of GS cast wheels. If you are going to modify a stock bike and originality is not a concern, I'd suggest you follow Lane's lead and use the same type of calipers. They are often called EX because they were used on the EX500 twin but the same style were used on SV650, and many other bikes. They just need to be single sided floating calipers to clear the spokes.

Double sided 4 piston calipers won't work with stock wheels without a lot of pain.

You could also look at slightly more modern wheels, but don't get sucked into modern wheels unless you are ready to use modern forks and swingarm.

Suspension and wheels of say an old FZR600 might work or form a GS500 twin if you can get them cheaply enough. See how this goes? You start off looking for pipes and before you know it you are hooked.

Have fun

GT750 Chambers

Post by water cooled »

I've surfed the internet for a long time for GT750 info and aftermarket parts and this is the first time I had heard of these expansion chambers. Just thought I would post them as they must be relatively rare.

Haven't seen a set of those in a long time. IIRC they scrapped the tooling years ago and are not available. FPP used to make Toomey's old RZ stamped pipes and they made good HP.

Nice find Kevin. Not for your steam train though.
