Suzuki 2 Strokes

Has anyone ever used one of these - www.carbtune.com/colortune.html

I was looking at some tuning tips on a GS site and it mentions using one of these to set your idle mixture.

Will they work for two-strokes?

I don't know. My thoughts are that if it works for anything, it would work for a two-stroke. BUT, most products like this are pretty useless. I'd love to see a test of they system by a reputable source.

Wow the last time i saw one of those was in the very early 80s, although i could never confirm from anyone how accurate it was.
If the price is cheap enough to try one for the sake of "testing its accuracy" why not buy one to see if it really works.

the is going back to 1981 but I tried to use one to check the carburation on my old B100P.

It didn't work because a) it's not as good as a normal spark plug so it only fired intermittently and b) the 2T oil and weak spark meant the only colour flame I saw was a yellow flicker ....

Please tell me they are not still selling those things.

I still have one of those useless devices. They are not very good on a 4 stroke, so mine is probably sitting in a drawer back in Australia if my sons didn't have enough sense to throw it out.

I really should not be so derisive, but it didn't work well for me. Since they are still selling them, I suppose they may work for someone else.

Why is the firing pattern so erratic and the color changes from one firing to teh next. Is that a function of normal missed beats of is the Colortune making things worse?

I can think of better ways of spending 30 quid.

From what I can see on that vid in John's link that guy needs to do some work on his carbs.....and it IS, after all, a brand y lump.
There's another clip on there where the guy APPEARS to be adjusting the idle circuit because the colour changes from a bright orange to a nice whiteish-blue.
I think the misses in the firing are not due to the Colourtune itself but rather the poor mixing by carb for that cylinder. It's probably too rich for the Colourtune to fire it properly.
