8 petal Polaris reed intakes

Post by Suzukidave »

To use some of the extra parts collected for the GSXR / GT750 build i picked up cheap off ebay a Polaris triple snowmobile case . I will cut these up as i did the Arctic Cat cases to get the reed boxes off . Image

Hi Tom , these reeds are so wide i am thinking of running them straight up and down and this will also allow me a nice straight shot to the lower case for 360 deg intake :D

The 8 petal Polaris reeds are fairly large compared to the Arctic Cat 6 petal reeds . Image

These reed blocks mounted straight up will cut well into the water jacket above the intakes but they will fit between the stud passage ways so i will be able to get the reeds right up to the bore and open up to the boost ports . Image

John , you are correct they do provide more power in a round about way . As you tweek 2 strokes for power the power band gets higher and more narrow . Manufactures and tuners try different methods to regain some of the shifted power band by useing water injection , variable exhaust ports , special designed chambers , other methods and what we are adding reed intakes . With the piston port engines these GTs use you can only raise the intakes so much and then the intake charge blows back out the intake and not up the transfers before the piston can close off the port , reeds help "fix" this problem as when they loose the intake draw signal they close off helping prevent this reverse flow. It is still a complex system that i have skimmed thru but this is the basic idea .

well that clears one matter up.
I know nothing about tuning or where to start.
the only bit of tuning that I know is polish all ports/heads and thats about it.
chears Dave.

Nothing wrong with a good port polish and matching , just that alone could make a engine run a bit better as most if not all engines were not cleaned up very well in manufacturing the ports .

I used some of today to cut on the block just to see how these big reed sets fit up , so i started off cutting the intakes off with the band saw to shorten the milling time Image
