T500 Jetting Help

Post by 2Stroke68 »

Hi everyone,

Hoping to get some help with my 75' T500.

Engine has not been modified. Running stock carbs, with pods, and Titan Performance expansion chambers. After sitting for years I am just trying to get the bike running well again. Gas is new, tank is clean, new fluids etc.

Stock jets were a 97.5 main and 30 pilot (you probably already know this)

Started with a 115 main jet and 32.5 pilot, didn't have great results. Have worked down to a 110 main, 30 pilot and needle clip in the middle notch. I have great mid to top end power plugs look great.

Low to mid power is horrible. Very groggy until it his mid to high and it's like a switch has been flipped on for the power. Comes on very abruptly

Bike starts and idles fine off the idle screw adjustment. But I get nothing off mixture screw adjustments. Absolutely nothing on either carb. Turn them all the way in.. all the way out. It doesn't seem to change the idle speed at all. Tried with a 32.5 pilot and the stock 30 pilot. Bike runs about the same.

Carbs have been cleaned... multiple times. Floats are set... slides are in the correct way.

Anyone know what else I could try to get the pilot sorted out? Should I be looking into air leaks etc? From what I've read on the forum it should run ok with a 30 or 32.5 pilot? I'm far from a mechanic, any help here is much appreciated!

welcome to the forum.
Sorry I can't help much with jetting, but I can say on my stock 75 T500 with stock air box, I went with 32.5 pilot jets to solve bucking issues, I know some went with 35 pilots.

Thanks Karl,

Maybe I'll order a couple 35s and try them out. I can't figure out why I'm not getting any response from mixture screw adjustments with a 30 or 32.5

I'd be suss of the Mufflers. How long has it been sitting un-run? Do you have the original Suzi mufflers you could fit?

Unfortunately don't have the original mufflers or I would give that a go. Still no luck playing with the jets.. Anyone have any ideas for what I could be doing wrong or where to start a s a baseline?
