T500 crank seal fitment

Ok, have got my new seals ready to be fitted. Have even split the crank apart to get to the centre bearing. Luckily all the bearings are in good condition so it’s just the seals to be replaced.
I have been looking in all the info I have as to which way round the seals are fitted to the bearings. Nothing I have seen is really clear.
Does the flat side of the seal face in or out on each bearing?

Regards

Yes,cupped/open spring side into center bearing. What position did you find the old ones in? I have read on one or two occasions about someone finding that someone had installed center crank seals backwards from what they should have been.

You are replacing the four 'O' rings also, right?

It's not everyone that wants to split/re-build a twin and up crankshaft......certainly not me. :|

What set up did you use....something like this?

Yes , I am replacing the 4 O rings as well. At least I don’t have to stretch the centre bearing ones to get them on. And am using those specs to press it back together.
I just had a look at the genuine Suzuki factory service manual, on page 60 there is a technical drawing of he crank and it shows the seals for the centre bearing. It has the flat side facing towards the bearing and the lip and spring towards the crank.
Actually this seems logical to me as that is how the outer seals are orientated. Spring side to crank.
Any one else have any thoughts on the matter?

Well I'll be damned.....I just called Bill Bune enterprises who has done hundreds of these cranks and you are correct. Spring side toward crank and make sure oil port of bearing clears tabs/feet on the seals. Makes sense to me now, when I remember about the pressure and vacuum created in the crank chamber. Good catch.
