2.00 mm Cast Piston for Gt380 correct length

Post by Vintageman »

Does any one outside of USA (UK, Italy, Australia) know of aftermarket cast pistons for GT380 2.00mm that are the same dimension (length) as GT380 (not GT250 Z7 or in between)

for example IMDPistons makes both long and short skirt , but still long about >2.0mm shorter. I think intake timing long enough on GT380 for what I want to do (get more torque lower down not rpm higher up)

Their is a company called AE Nural pistons that claim to be correct length (68.5mm counting dome).... Who sells/distributes (UK)these? I think still made.

Others? Current supplier or NOS
Mitaka
TKRJ
Right Way
Hepolite
Art

Wiseco had some once upon a time (various ring styles) found some but just has one Ring... seams not wise choice for trying to made a high mile street bike?

The UK brands on ebay with piston flattened/cut down on pin whole side like X7 4mm skirt to short (Maybe not all the same?)

thanks

Mitaka are really X7 so 4mm short. Same with TKRJ. Am I wrong?

IMD gt380 is different ("long") then their Gt250 ("short") but >2mm too short

AE Nural supposedly correct. Not sure if these still made? This was the one I am hopping someone knows about (UK?)

Right Way out of malaysia? Don't see them listed on website/// must have had made at one time for they did have 1.5mms at one time

Hepolite?? out of business

ART know little about but thought they made OEM for Suz

Not sure if anyone makes anymore for gt380 at 1.5mm or 2.0mm

Wiseco 293 P6 and P8 if you can find three.... Some have only on ring....doesn't seam good for street low end... more high rpm lower friction

If I am wrong someone say.

I can hold out a while... else just use 1.0mm Suz

A few months ago I got a set of Wiseco pistons from Paul Miller for my GT550 cafe build. He had Wiseco make a batch for him.
Might be worth calling him.

Some of the NOS parts listed on eBay are shown with generic pics. Check the listing to see if they say that.
If its a generic pic, then the pic might show one ring while the actual part has two.

edit edit: found the site that has AE Nural. I say that for somewhere else I have seen the same part # and was AE
If you look at 1.5mm OS (they even have 1.6mm OS 8). They state the length including dome, That agrees with Suz.

http://www.classic-motorcycles.co.uk/cg ... b_scid=127" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;"

They are expensive
$116 USA ea

3 shipped is $514.21 :shockhttp:

They - >
http://vintagemotorcyclepistons.co.uk/e ... oducts/952" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
$93 US

Does anyone know anything about this dealer?

Does anyone know what make of piston this is (AE Nural) and importantly who else may sell for lower price?

Anyone ever use this dealer or make of piston?

edit: Here is a link to Right Way piston https://380blue.wordpress.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; person used 1.5mm OS and claims 1.75mm max!

I just measured thickness of liner on late style gt380 (2 sets) and the liner at top is just 1mm thick. How far down it goes at 1.00 mm before it gets thicker, don't know, but to me this says 2.0 mm OS piston can break through at the top  . Would say 1.5mm is max
---------------------
Yes I could ask Paul.... but he has nothing posted (I have asked him about 1.5mms for T350 over the past year ...he says coming but never do... sometimes he says does't have then iremind him of previous answer.. :wth: I did say he should sell a few for many are at the 1.0mm limit. I suppose he did not see much potential.

I am sure the wisecos 293 are one ring for person sent me pic. Usually (my experience form the era) the 293 has two rings and the top dyke. He proved it. My luck one ring. I asked for ring part # for with one ring could to have spare set. No reply as of yet I still may buy just to have for higher rpm project.

If I would have slowed down I could show the specs as I find them and stated here. I have either contacted supplier or found links to specs after a deep long and dark search of the web

I am trying to re-find the AE Nural link that had the Gt380 1.5 mm OS and stated 68.5 mm length crown. They had stock. It was an EU country. Very expensive I didn't save for sure i was getting Wisecos since 2.0 mms or 1.5mm until I saw 1 ring only. Prefer cast as well for this project. Also some debate if one can actually go 2.0 mm ( I'll recheck later what I measure).

So I am hoping someone oversees has found aftermarket supplier and correct for gt380. I am think 2.0mm would work and need to be well centered before bore. take 1.5mms too

The IMDs are closest, but -2mm off skirt may be enough to kill my goal to make this engine have as much low end -mid grunt as possible... but if you are at 1.0mm today best I see. Probably trivial difference

Where are those AE Nural...

The three Wiseco GT550 pistons I recently bought weren’t much cheaper then those AE Nurals at Red Lizard Classic Motorcycles.

Relative to being a real & credible piston retailer, Motorcycle News has a writeup on Red Lizard.
https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/200 ... ns-stock-/
And I found this forum topic that referred to Vintage Motorcycle Pistons & Red Lizard as the usual piston sources.

Edit:

from vintagemotorcyclepiston

3 piece(s) Part no. 20358 +1.5 MM
Product no.: 952
£65.98 * 3 = £197.94
DPD UK £10.20
Total amount £208.14

shipping to USA £30 (not sure ea or combined... assume combined)

final = £238.14 = (today) $338.85 a better but still expensive

1.0mm Suz from Partzilla ~$78 each free shipping= $156.00

$338.85 - $156.00 = 182.85 for another 7.5 CC ~ $24.38 per CC... getting better but still too rich for me I have 1.0 mm Suz in hand today too).

Any in UK (EU) know who sells these pistons for less

Well per spec, this are the right length. So FYI. Watch out for other makes (next closest was IMD specific to GT380). Dual ring wiseco (Dyke top) at least the the p2s were correct length as well. I don't think 2.0 mm is possible... you'll break through... how far down from top before it gets thicker... don't know.

-------------------------------------------------------

jabcb,

Thanks for info. and keeping this going

Since one distributor is in Shropshire, ENGLAND and the other is in Ramsey, Isle of Man, British Isles. different companies? Looks like AE Nural is the supplier to both? There may be others distributing cheaper and hope someone from UK on this board knows. $~200 shipping kind of too high :wth:

It isn't worth going .0.5mm over my 1.0mm Suz OS set for over $500.00 that is over $67.00 a CC I would gain which is ~ 7.5 CC more total. IT's looking like I will use my 1.0mm or 0.5mm for this project. Still holding out for 1.5mm at say $250.00 in hand (still too much someone call Cruzinman... He banded me :D )

If you have cycs at 1.0mm bore now I can see wanting 1.5mm OS pistons, but today still cheaper to buy set of Gt380 cycls used + new pistons... someday that may change.

Hi!

There are also GPM-Pistons, from Italy.

Piston No. 5422 fits GT250M/GT380. Same measures as Suzuki pistons. 14mm piston pin.

(Piston No. 5422A fits GT250KL. 16mm piston pin.
I use them in my GT250 racer)

I just phoned:
Pistons are currently available in Germany, diameter 55 and 55.6, price about 65 Euro.
Piston pins and rings included.
Other diameters can be custom made. This will cost about 95 Euro / piston.

Thanks for replying. Are GPM-Pistons yet another make like AE - Nural or are they a distributor?

As you know I am looking for pistons the full exact length as Suzuki for GT380. Are they?

Converting Euro to Dollar is better (my perspective) than Pounds to Dollars today

65 Euro is $80.64 Better

Here is a person selling the AE brand part #20358 for GT380 etc.

https://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... acat=61301" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Only 34.30 Euro  Too bad only 0.5 mm OS

This makes me think AE is a manufacture with several distributors in EU (UK  ). Just need to find the 1.5 mm in the 3X.xx Euro range with reasonable shipping to USA.

Edit: And another for 30 Euro but only 0.25 mm OS
https://www.ebay.com/itm/PISTON-FOR-SUZ ... SwDN1UPFOj" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just send him message asking if 1.5mm OS can be had. My luck ebay said
"The seller isn’t able to respond. Review the listing again to see if it answers your question."

Keep Looking Please

GPM is the manufacturer. The logo is cast in the piston

Yes, same dimensions, length, height, crown etc.

I don't think they sell in Europe only. Maybe you'll find a GPM-Distributor in your Country.
I only know the mentioned source in germany. Unfortunately they don't have a internet-shop.

Since 4 or 5 people have the AE I was hoping this would be my best chance.... Funny, when I try to contact world wide ebay it blocks/errors. I did get two replies ("sorry no stock that size") Then i try to ask if they know mfg so I can contact direct or other distributors that may have and I get error when I send reply to those Ebay sites, I noted earlier, that messaged me... I didn't think my initial message made it through. WTF.

I need to bore my cylinders out and still waiting on new crank pins and rods to show upso have sometime to look around for reasonable priced 1.5mm. If no find I'll just use my 1.0 Suz. But 1.5mm would be 8)

?
If you have +1.0-pistons and the matching cylinders that can be bored to this, then why waste a bore size? If the pistons are used and already a bit worn, you can try it with a piston coating.

Even better if the budget permits, use 1.0 pistons & buy the 1.5s for future use. That should keep your GT380 on the road for longer.

Guys

Simple , I want large as possible for this tune and looks like 1.5mm is about it, not that big of a deal, but still want if I can find in time. Finishing RD400 project and this Gt380 bike is next. The longest part of this project will be waiting for crank rebuild. Ordered new crank pins out of Japan and still awaiting that to come in ( these are NA now too). I use a local resource for boring and only about a week turn. Again would like to find those 1.5 or 1.6mm EAs or whatever, but won't wait.

Can't see why so hard to find AE for few dealers in Europe..Don't stop helping if you know of these or others in this size. It would be nice if someone would ask those ebay sites if they would share their supplier, oem, or knew of others who may carry that product. As said I can't get that to work on non USA ebay sites? I'll look into that again

If we can't find before I complete this project add a future post... someone will benefit.

If I find I will update this one.

At one point in time I am sure these were more readily available . If I can push someone to run another bunch great. If I can find OEM I will asked to run a bunch. I like cast when making a tune that stays within stock redline.

Cheers

I ended up finding three 2-ringed (both rings same style) style Wiseco at 1.5mm OS

This is one ->

My shinny NOS Crank pins arrived too  .

Getting harder and harder to find parts for these old bike, but since the were popular stuff still out there.
