T250 first gear

Post by ben james »

Hi Guys, I race a T250 in Australian historic racing & am installing a taller first gear made by Moore engineering. It doesn't have the transmission brake ring on it so I am removing that mechanism. does anybody know how it will go without it. Suzuki describe it has stopping first gear spinning when in neutral & making a noise.

Hello Ben,

I use an Ellis Moore higher 1st gears in my T500 race engine gear boxes and it works well, and a lot cheaper than a pukka c/r box from NOVA etc. I don't think the T500 has a transmission brake ring (AFAIK) so can't comment for a T250. If it's just little bit of extra noise I don't think I would worry too much though.

Hi Ben

I run a Nova CR box in my 500, it works well on the faster tracks but as most of the tracks where I race in Spain are tight and technical the first gear is too long. On tracks like Catalunya it works well as until, the addition of the new chicane`s where you need the first gear. Actually I also had no real issue with the standard Gearbox, the only reason to change was that there were some crack gears when the person who makes my engine opened it.

I checked and seems as Geoff said no brake ring on the T500

Cheers

Thanks Guys, I will post up how it goes when I get it back together again. I'm also putting in 2nd & 3rd gear from a GT250A as it will make the five higher gears a closer ratio

Hi Ben / Guys
I know this thread is many years old, but in the vague hope anyone is still out there...
I race T250 & GT250 in Europe and looking for a taller 1st gear.
Have searched Moore Engineering but can't find them.
Any help much appreciated...
Cheers, Mike
