Suzuki 2 Strokes

Hi All.
I have a 1970 T500 that seems to be running rich and I have not had the bike running before , it will not rev above 2500/3,000 rpm it has done 3,000 miles and slides look brand new, the set up follows.
Main Jet 150.
pilot jet 130
Needle jet 3 rd groove from top.
Mixture screw 1 and a half turns out.
Float height 27mm when float tang just touchers
2.5 is stamped on bottom of slide.

When riding there is no difference to bike if you put the choke on.

I have removed the baffels from exhaust but no improvement
Timing is good.
Also with this model did it come with a tank rack ( Frame # 29938 )
Does any one have any ideas.

What's the state of the air filter?

Check the exhaust to see if both cylinders are generating about the same exhaust output.

Problem could be the ignition & electrical systems.
As the revs increase you are also giving the coils less time to energize so the spark gets weaker with increasing revs.

At the beginning of this riding season one of my bikes was running fine at low rpm but at a bit over 4k ran like it needed a tuneup.
Installed a new battery & the bike was back to running fine.

Some T500s with a weak/bad battery will have one cylinder that doesn’t get good spark.
So start with making sure you have a good battery that is fully charged.
Then check the voltage with the bike running.

What shape are the points in?

Is this a bike you just acquired?


Online parts diagrams are really useful.
Check the websites for the Australian Suzuki dealers to see if any have online parts ordering systems for your bike.
Maybe an Australian forum member can provide some useful links.
