strange, slow intake of gasoline, or so it seems - gt380

Post by Ramjam »

Hi all
I have a strange characteristics of my gt380 when starting. It's as though it is starved of gasoline. With the choke on, it will take 5 kicks. Each time the engine will run for 5 seconds but run v badly with no acceleration whatseover.
then finally on the 5th kick, suddenly it is as though a gasoline tap has been opened and it really fires up and can accelerate.

what does this seem like to the veterans? is it possible that just by leaving my petcock in the normal 'on' position that somehow the gas stops moving when there is no vacuum? And so therefore the gas in the bowels evaporates? Should i switch to Prime before starting?

It's very confusing. It's exactly as though a fuel line is pinched and then suddenly released. But i'll be buggered if i know where the real fault is, particularly in that i double checked the float chamber settings before.

any advice appreciated.

It's a vacuum tap so fuel should not flow when the engine is stopped. I guess it's quite warm where you live, so I think you need to prime for a few seconds before you try to start as petrol will evaporate from the carbs.
Remember to put the tap back to 'on' or 'res' when the engine starts

It's not a fault, it's a Suzuki!!
It may now be sorted!!
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
