Is the problem that you aren't using a dial indicator?? By your description it sounds like you are simply trying to determine the 2.09mm distance by sticking a ruler in there.. :wth: That in itself would be fraught with problems and nearly impossible to accurately determine. You need to try and approach it as the other guys have said, by using the dial to find TDC. If you buy that LCR windmill that goes behind the points plate, timing becomes much easier. Hope you get it sorted out. :up:

not yet. I've been very busy at work plus I'm doing some engine work on a friends Harley to make some extra ca$h.

I have a boyer brandson ignition. The timing is non adjustable for individual cylinders. I'm going to time it off the center cylinder and adjust as needed from there. I wish I had a more adjustable ignition system but it has to be better than points!
