Suzuki 2 Strokes

I bought a rv 125 and have a problem with it, the kick starter wont engage until the bottom of the stroke. Before I take the motor apart to fix I thought I would check with the experts to see if there is another way of fixing this. Any ideas??
By the way this is a cool bike, I cant wait to get it running..

No cheat on this..

I have the same issue on my 74 Rv and the kickstart pawl, pi and spring are the very last part to remove after splitting cases and removing gears.
