I picked up a second 1971 TM400 off of Craig’s List for cheap and am planning to build one bike with both. Both are matching numbers bikes so once I go over both I will decide which one to use for the build. It will be a while before I really get into this as I have other projects to finish first but I have noticed a few common problems with both, kick start lever does not return to up-right position which I assume is the return spring and the top aluminum triple clamps are cracked on both. Are there any upgrades beyond stock for these two problems, what are the common fixes, are there any other common problems to look for on the 71 TM400. I would like to make as stock as possible so I will need the air filter and auto lube assemblies as both are missing. I’m going to start by trying to track down a repair and parts manual. All input and advise welcome for the start of this rebuild. Thanks
