Suzuki 2 Strokes

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to change my gearing a bit on the Savage. She's too pretty to take off road, so I tend to use her around the roads and for buzzing to work on - lotsa fun on a nice day

So my question is what combination of sprockets should I aim for? Recently, my bike group took our wee bikes out for a day long run and I found that out on the open road I was unconsciously trying to change gear up i.e. the revs sounded like they needed to drop on the straight bits of road.

Currently the bike has a 14 tooth front sprocket and 40 tooth on the rear. My manuals show 15:39 as standard and the options to be
13, 14 and 16 for the front and then 40, 41 for the rear.

Best combo for riding on the road as opposed to dirt?

Mike I'd get the largest sprocket thats possible to fit up front without the teeth or chain interfering the case or clutch rod. Then test it with what you have out back now and fine tune the gearing from there. Even so, you are going to be in small tooth count sizes out back anyways, so putting the largest up front means you will be using the largest tooth count of the small sized rear sprockets that are available when you are done getting it to suit your taste.
Knowing how the TS model are geared I figure you will end up with something close to a 16F and 35R

Long time no hear. Hope you have been keeping well. Thanks for the reply. I had been coming to the idea of a 16 up front, so nice to have some reinforcement with that idea. As you say, it will be a bit of trial and error to find the best combo, but I will start with a 16. It always feels a bit easier to change the front sprocket.

How's the fleet performing? We are entering the cold months here so riding opportunities are beginning to be less. Funny how all the fine days are mid week when one is at work !

Its good to hear from you too Mike and things are pretty good right now. Seems all I do is restore parts or gauges and if its not that, its prep and painting thrown in as well.

Yeah I know its going to be a trial and error thing on the gearing, but I figure I put you in the pall park with the 16/35 so I'll be interested to hear what you end up with. out back.

The fleet as you called them are all well and some are getting a bit more cosmetic work to improve their looks.
For you its getting colder and for us its getting warmer. Deals Gap is fast approaching so thats on the cards and as its a two stroke meet one of the RGs is going to show its face.
I hear you on the free time riding due to the weather, it never fails, sunny out and its work, rainy out and your ride time is cut due to bad weather, oh well....
