Hi all I have just joined the group and have a TS400J 'Feb72 that was imported into the UK.
Allegedly it runs but I have not tried yet. There are a few bits I need to to it but it was mostly complete.

Bits I Need Headlamp ( flat bottom type) 35121-18610 yes I know these are rarer than Hen Teeth !!
Exhaust early type before the second muffler came in. ( accept ill have to go for that if one can be found)

A few bits Im unsure of. On the LHS bars is the Start lever ( to a decompressor I guess) but under this is a second lever to what looks like another decompresor on the head, the '74 manual I have shows a blank here.

The air box is also missing

Any help will gratefully recieved

You will need the 72/73 manual, the 74 and later models are different in many areas on the bikes. Airboxes and headlamps do show up on Ebay and are reasonably priced if you are patient in your search. That pipe looks like one from a TM400, its definately not stock for the TS.
Put up a photo of the left side lever assy so I can see it, you should only have a clutch and decompressor lever.
Seat covers are available through Ebay seller Pit Replicas and are first rate quality.

Nice bike.

Its best to make sure that your electrical system is function properly before installing a correct flat-bottom headlight.
For a temporary headlight, you can use a round 5-3/4” car headlight if you wrap the outer edge in tape.

Heres a 72 airbox, it needs stripping and some minor work to bring it back into use

The upper small lever is the choke lever running to the carb, the decompressor is the black lever and that cable will go to the cylinder head.
Heres a service manual for the J model.

Ok,,, not owning a 72 TS400, I did some digging around the parts book for your model. The cylinder head uses the left hole for the spark plug and the right one has a blank plug in the other, which is basically the same for all the TS models in the 70s.
What I called the "choke lever" assembly which seems to be a double use item across some model variants, for your model is the decomp lever.
SOOOOO you should have the "choke lever" assembly on the left side with a cable running from it down to the decomp valve in the front of the cylinder barrel. The rest of the bits you have there, the black lever and all thats connected to it is someones idea of rethinking the factory concept.
Bear in mind the decomp valves are NLA from Suzuki so if the one screwed into the right side plughole is salveagable and you can remove the remains of the one in the cylinder barrel and put the one now in the head into the barrel and get a new cable you should have yours working again as it was originally.
You will need to buy the blank off plug for the right side plug hole as well.

Thanks for the info on the Decomp. I have managed to get them both out and cleaned up and working. I think I will probably that the Cylinder head one out and fit a blank though.
Managed to find the correct shape headlamp......in Cyprus of all places. Most of the other little bits have now been ordered so I hope within the next couple of weeks to get it running.
The only part I can't find is the exhaust. I've found a 125 exhaust but I would guess the bore would be different.

Lots of people kept two plugs in the head in case you fouled one. The original decompression lever (in the front of the cylinder) would aid in starting the bike. The aftermarket one, in the second spark plug hole (if pulled) would never allow the engine to start. It releases too much compression for that, and is used as a method of slowing down while maintaining full throttle, as in short-track racing. Think "Jake Brake" on a truck....

I've located parts from all over the world as well in my searches and as long as the sellers got great feedback I'll buy from them.
Every TS model bikes exhaust was specific to it in size, shape, bore length etc so you need to have the 72/73 TS400 pipe. The one shown on the bike as Lane noted looks like a Bassani, its a very good pipe but it lacks the classic look of the oem pipe with chromed guard.

I'll have to get some pics of the one my mate is doing. Same model.
No decompressor and starts easily 1st kick.
He's fitted an after market 5" round headlight and it looks the biz.
