Head gasket

Anyone know which way the head gasket goes on a 1972 Suzuki TS400? Mine is leaking and I'm replacing it. It has a raised part in the middle, so I'm not sure which way is up and which way is down. And do I need to use any sealant? Or is it a good idea to use any sealant?
