rev counting wiring inside headlamp gt380

Post by Ramjam »

hi
I'm still stuck on these two cables which i can trace back to the tachometer. I'm not sure where exactly to connect them inside the headlamp to get the rev counter going again. If you know, please take a look at the photo and look closely at the right side where you can just about see two cables - both red and white - one of which is crudely black taped to a bit of green cable which looks like it was cut once upon a time. And the other one is attached to a very short bit of yellow/green cable.
Where should these originally have been attached to?

any help appreciated

What do you mean by "get the rev counter going again"?
Are you referring to a light bulb in the rev counter?
Or are you asking about getting the rev counter to display engine rpm?

Might help if you post a pic of the rev counter face.
You might have a different rev counter than what we expected. That could explain why our previous answers didn't help.

i simply mean that it used to work before and since i put it all back together (i replaced the glass lenses) i stupidly forgot to record where all the cables went. Result: rev counter no longer working.
And all i can assume is that these two cables - which go to the rev counter - are the ones which makes the entire contraption work, no?

The stock rev counter is completely mechanical. It operates via a cable much like the stock speedo does.

Am having some internet connection problems today, so I can't find some pics to help explain it.

now we're getting somewhere. So let me guess. It screws into the back of the gearbox from the top?

Yes.

This is an exploded view of the GT380 engine.
Look at the center bottom. It shows the oil pump & rev counter drives.
