'73 GT250 headlight?

Hello all,
From what I can find, the original headlight for this bike seems to be NLA. Mine's toast, what's my best option here? I was thinking that, as a last resort, I could probably dismantle the original bulb and find a way to fit a regular halogen bulb in there... But I'd rather do it "right" if I can.

The stock headlight is often available via eBay. NOS headlight will be pricey.

An alternative is to upgrade to a headlight from certain GS-L models.
The GS headlight rim 35111-45230 or 35111-45231 fits the GT250, GT380, T/GT500s (excluding flat-bottom headlight models).

For a sealed beam option, the headlight + rim + misc parts from bikes like the '79 GS425L will fit.

For an H4 halogen option, the headlight + rim + misc parts from bikes like the '81 GS750L will fit.

Some headlights are available via eBay. Didn't see any new headlight when I just checked but they are often listed.

You could ask the seller to measure the OD of the rim to make sure.

If you switch to H4, then you'll should get a 35/35W or 45/45W H4 bulb.

I have a chrome headlite assy from an '81 GS550, (complete w/bucket, trim-ring, lense, good halogen bulb, grommets, & all inner cable straps) . The exposed lense is 6" dia. & the space between mounting points is about 6.25". The trim ring has some pitting, & the bucket is a bit rusty inside. Otherwise it's in pretty good condition...on a 10 pt scale, I'd say 7.5 to 8. Obviously, if you're looking for an exact "right" part for your bike, this is not what you want. However, if yours is toast, this will get you back on the road & look decent in the process without breaking the bank. I'd sell it for $30 (you pay shipping from zip 13850). Cbwells's headlight should be the H4 headlight I suggested.
The rim + headlight unit from his headlight should fit you headlight bucket.
At $30, its a much better deal than what I found.

You'll need to get a 35/35W or 45/45W H4 bulbs. They are easy to get because scooters use the lower wattage bulbs.

Don't know how tolerant a halogen headlight is of higher voltages, so it might be a good idea to consider upgrading to a rectifier/regulator. Stock, your GT250 doesn't have a voltage regulator. It uses the battery as a voltage regulator.

My headlight assy looks just like the eBay GS550 mentioned above, but mine is not rusted or pited anywhere like that one is. Personally, I wouldn't even think of putting that one on a bike unless it got a full sandblast & paint job. Here's a pix of the worst part of mine:

The chrome rim that has some rust on cbwells's headlight is still available NOS. Its around $30 at one of the dealers that discounts parts.

The headlight lens is NLA from Suzuki.

So I was suggesting to get cbwells's headlight, a NOS chrome rim, and a lower wattage H4 bulb.

Thanks for all the advice, I never even thought to check ebay. Probably going to go with the stock light if I can, everything on the bike is stock and original right now... Even the tires
