Coil testing

All to do with wiring, charging or just trying to figure out whats gone wrong.

How can I test to see if a set of T500 coils work or not ?

Ground the spark plug to the cylinder head so that you can see the spark when you manually operate the points. Rotate crank so that points are closed & use screw driver to open points.
Should get a good spark. Could be something else if you don't get a good spark.

Check coil primary & secondary resistance.
Primary resistance should be around 4 ohms.
Secondary resistance should be 10k to 25k ohms.

Check resistance between either primary wire & the coil mounting bracket.
Should get an open circuit reading.

Look the coils over to see if you can find any cracks. Might currently be working ok, but the coil cracked for a reason.

What problem are you having?

No problem that i know of yet, just picked up a second hand pair of coils and wondered if there was a way of testing them before putting them on the bike.
