T500 Rectifier & Regulator Replacement

Post by Syd »

I am restoring my 72 T500 J and am looking to replace the voltage regulator and rectifier as the original parts are in poor condition. A type VRRPM2 combined regulator/rectifier has been recommended as a retrofit from Oregon Motorcycle Parts for the T500. Have anyone tried one for these units with success?

Oregon Motorcycle Parts sells good stuff, but for the T500 I prefer the Tympanium rectifier/regulator.
Its cheaper and installs easily where the stock regulator is.

For install pic & wiring diagram see:

Its available via eBay for about $50:

Thanks for that - this is all new to me so just to clarify, the Tympanium is both a rectifier/regulator all in one? Who makes these as the specs relate to British bikes?

The Tympanium rectifier/regulator can be wired up as negative ground or positive ground.
Does seem to be popular for vintage British bikes. I used "triumph" in the eBay search string because a few vendors sell them for use on Triumphs.

The Tympanium is a rectifier/regulator in one component. On the T500 it replaces both the rectifier & regulator.

The pic & modified wiring diagram shown in the link is of my T500. Have been using it for a few years without any problems.

Thanks for the information - much appreciated. Sounds like the way to go with my T500 as well. I'll arrange to get one.
