Suzuki 2 Strokes

So doing a restore and need to replace the burned out gauge lights on a 1972 TS185 . The issue I am finding is that I can't get the grommets that hold the lights in there out. I try but they just start tearing. Is there a trick ? Am I doing something wrong?

I’ve just replaced the high beam bulb on my GT185 and am sure it just pulled out, I did remove the tacho cable, not sure why you would have any problems?

It just feels like they are jammed in there super tight. almost to the point of glued. I tried removing but I just start tearing the rubber

Squirt with wd40 or silicone spray and after soaking, be VERY gentle.
AFAIK, these are unobtanium......

Assuming they're the same as GT750's.........Just tear the suckers out and replace them, expensive yes but they'll still be good 'till you're dead

You could approach it with a straight pick or thin small flat head screwdriver to try and break the seal from decades of being undisturbed.

alan's suggestion is the way i do it. just push the rubber to one side with an electrician's screwdriver or similar, squirt some wd40 in and they should just pull out easily. do the same when you refit them. spray wd40 round the outside of the rubber and they will pop in easily

Cool I will give the wd-40 trick a try this weekend and my old man suggested take a hair dryer to it as well to help soften up the rubber. Trying to get this puppy back together by the end of the month
