short in alternator circuit

Connecting all plugs for alternator circuit. (gt750k never had bike together before this) it kept blowing main fuse. Check regulator and rectifier all good. Traced wires back to brush holder to find a insulator missing on 12v green wire (insulates screw at bottom of brush holder ? i think). Has anyone had this problem before
