How to check ignition coil & correct resistance values?

All to do with wiring, charging or just trying to figure out whats gone wrong.

How to check ignition coil & correct resistance values?

Post by GT500-2stroke »

Hi,

What are the correct resistance values for ignition coil windings?
I am getting 0.0 Ohm on input side and ~17.8KOhm on output ( which goes to spark plugs ).
Are these values correct?

Which manual should I buy ? Where can I find this manual ?
Thanks.

You might have a hard time finding a manual, I bought one but mostly covers the T500, which is quite different on electrics.

See Service Bulletin GT-28: http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/techb ... 027-33.pdf
Make sure your multimeter is adjusted to the correct scale. Your secondary reading will be higher if you are including the spark plug resistor cap.

Absolutely correct!

When I pluged in spark plug cap, the resistance value increased and overshoot the scale on multi-meter!
That was causing me to think that the connection is lost!

Thanks a lot for your help.

I have also checked magneto coils.
And it shows resistance values which are in thousands of Ohms.
Is this expected?
What resistance values should I be getting?

Does it mean that CDI unit is the culprit now?
I have checked ignition coil, magneto coils, exiter/pulsar coil.
All of these show some resistance values.
All of these show no broken connection.
But I have not recorded resistance values and compared with expected values.

Where can I find resistance values for all of these coils?
