All to do with wiring, charging or just trying to figure out whats gone wrong.

GT 550 Voltage between phases.

Post by pfg49 »

What is the voltage between phases on a Gt 550 Kokusan alternator, and do you measure this with the rectifier/regulator disconnected?

Not sure of the exact - it would depend if the rotor was getting high or low excitation from the regulator anyway.
Remember that the rotor has to be energised for the alternator to generate anything at all.
The test (unplugged or plugged) should be the same between any two yellow phases, and will be less when the rectifier is plugged in. Due to losses in the rectifier diodes, the alternator output AC voltage will be higher than the rectifier DC output to the battery.
I would imagine that the open circuit (rectifier disconnected) alternator voltage could be 20V+ easily.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
