GT500 rec/reg conversion ideas?

Post by joolstacho »

Has anyone replaced the standard separate rectifier and regulator in a GT500 and replaced them with an integrated REC/REG, - for example I have good rec/regs from CX500 and GS500 that could do the job.

I've used a Tympanium rectifier/regulator on my T500 & GT250. That will also work on the GT500.
Costs around $50.
For more info search my posts for tympanum & T500.
Let me know if you don't find the posts or need more info.

I've spoken to a feller who has used a CX500 REC/REG on his GS450 for many years with no problems.
BTW am I right in assuming the GT500 alternator is 3-phase permanent magnet type?
If so its a staightforward swap I think, obviously with changes to the wiring and plugs.

No, its a single-phase alternator with a full-wave rectifier.

If it were a 3-phase alternator then the rectifier would have 6 diodes.

Try a classic Brit bike after market supplier they usually carry single phase reg/rec. This is the one I am using, but as the project isn't finished can't say if any good yet.

Has anyone used this rec/reg from 'fecked.com'? -Or any other solution?

Also... does anyone know the actual difference between the 2 charge coils A and B ? (32131-15320 and 32132-15320)

You might ask http://www.powerdynamo.biz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; if they would sell you the VAR unit that is included in there breakerless conversion:

Or get this bulletproof Shindengen

Hey thanks Keith, that stuff looks superb, (trouble is that I'm looking for a solution that doesn't involve mortgaging my firstborn!)
