Speed Week Lake Gairdner 2016
Some folks may know of Muzza (Murray Bernard) near Perth who also operates the International Two Strokes board which many of us are also members of - he and a few others will be attempting to set a new land speed record for a 1972 T500 at this years meet happening between February 29th to March 4th. The main web site is here, and the web page with the list of entrants is here. The rider will be Nic Montagu (entry 1225 - just scroll down till you find him). At the moment the area of the salt flats looks to be in good shape, so it should be a go.
Join me in wishing Muzza and the team success !

Check out #739 Stephen Finn and Goldie his GT750 with reed valved billet head etc etc.
I didn't see Brett deStoop there.
Is that ex 500cc GP racer Kevin Magee at the end of the list?
And Bob Prior of course.

Other than Brett I'm embarrassed to admit those names are not familiar to me - should be an interesting week though !tz375 wrote:Check out #739 Stephen Finn and Goldie his GT750 with reed valved billet head etc etc.

Re: Speed Week Lake Gairdner 2016
Kevin Magee was a Works rider on the Lucky Strike team IIRC. He's the guy doing a burnout at Laguna Seca that Bubba Shobert ran into the back of. I saw him ride a Ducati at Calder decades ago and he was in a different league to the rest of us plodding around.
Stephen Finn had a neat GT750 that morphed into a Land Speed record bike with full fairing and tail. It looks serious.

I know that Bob Prior did really well. He improved his own record and set another one. Both records were increased a lot.

Re: Speed Week Lake Gairdner 2016
If I'm reading the results correctly, it looks like Rob Prior set two new records of 163.368 and 162.345 with his 2003 Suzuki, Stephen Finn managed 153.096 which is better than the record but for some reason is not shown as being a record. Murray's team I think managed 121.782 on their 1972 T500 which was a new record. I've sent him an email asking him to confirm. Given the issues at Bonneville, Lake Gairdner could become the new place to be in future for land speed trials. I've got family in Melbourne - good excuse for another visit !

Re: Speed Week Lake Gairdner 2016
Stephen Finn did run really well. Bob Prior and Stephen ran in the same class so it was a dog-fight between the two of them trading back and forth for the record. Bob came out on top in the end. That's why Stephen's results don't show up as a record. Both guys deserve much respect. A lot of work went in to the preparation and there was significant innovation incorporated into both bikes.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes it was Kevin Magee, the former 500 GP rider, he was at the Barry Sheene Memorial meet 2 weeks later riding a 500 GP bike also.
Brett was not there:-(
Ian,
There are a lot of bike competitors from Melbourne or at least Victoria who I'm sure would be too pleased to tag you along. Take lots of sun screen and be prepared for the conditions to push you well out of your comfort zone. The majority of people there are good to be around especially the two-stroke people:-)
Salt was very good, meet was run very well and it wasn't real hot (for Lake Gairdner in late Summer), low 40s c I believe.
Bob.
