Took my RGV VJ21 SP out for it's first real ride of the season today.
I pulled the Lectrons off and put the 34 Mikuni's back on with the airbox.
Bottom end is much better, and top end feels pretty good too.
Will be going back to the dyno as soon as I can get it in....pulled over 70 with the Lectrons, but AF was so screwed up there was no way of resolving it with the different needles I had.
Ran great for top end on dyno, but couldn't get out of it's own way riding on the street.
38's were just too big.....at least I didn't blow it up.

Problem now is I have a new RSV4, I have lost interest in basically anything else in the garage.

Also tested out the quick shifter I put on this winter....works great, and should save the clutch discs a little bit of wear.

Interesting change in direction.

Am thinking you should switch to a 2LS front brake. A few of the Suzuki 2LS front brakes use a stay like your TS400 has.

I had been struggling with myself on the front end, as I want to make this a simple project….as the engine is so simple compared to all the bikes I have dealt with previously.
I thought about modern Supermoto front ends and rear brakes… I thought about a T500 front end, or even bring in a NK43 Tempter front brake from Japan.
But I wanted the most basic bike I could build, yet make it stick to the road with modern rubber.
It will be restored bone stock, except for rims, spokes and a pipe externally. Engine might get some TM treatment.

Basically it’s a project to clear my head of the complexities of what started out as a desire to have modern two strokes, which were unavailable to me.
I am losing my desire to search, buy, refinish the right bits for my 2T projects….

If I can’t get this done, I guess it’s time to sell off what I have and fold up shop.

Moving slow on this, but still moving
Stripped engine, and soda blasted the cases and cylinder.
Order for all my bearings came in last week. Got all my seals this week and hopefully my gaskets will be here by end of the week.
Not sure if I’m going to paint engine completely black as original, or polish the covers and fin edges…?
Still just test fitting everything…

Not sure if you've seen this TS400 resto. Might give you some thoughts.

Vapor blasting is another good option for the engine.

I had not seen that TS400 link before
Beautiful bike, I do like the polished cover look.
Would like to make the TM400 motor I’m building look pretty.

Aqua blasting would be the best option if I was going with no paint anywhere on the engine. Thinking I might paint the cases black along with cylinder and head, then polish up the fin edges, and polish the covers…
If I don’t like it that way, I can always paint the covers then too.

The crankcase, cylinders & heads were vapor blasted on my T500 cafe build by a shop near me.
The engine covers were vapor blasted, polished & clear coated by forum member Sandman.
I think Sandman might also do black -- check with him if you are interested.

Slowly working on vintage bikes is a retirement hobby.
I just finished this build at the end of summer. Motor runs like a new stock T500. Suspension & front brake are sweet.

Ended up going back to work for a new project. So I haven’t gone on any long rides yet.

Beautiful 500
I do my own soda blasting, no need for aqua blasting on this project. I work in a paint shop so polishing and painting has been a daily thing for well over 40 years.
As far as going…. No reason a bike can’t look nice and shiny, yet scare the hell out of you at full throttle
That’s why I’m building at TM400 for it, it will not be a beginner bike.

Slowly but surely the TM/TS400 is being brought back…
