V-Strom ready for the road

I decided to try to travel on the V-Strom some next year so I went ahead and put GIVI E36 side cases on the bike. I already had the E450 trunk so I stayed with GIVI. I also put a Hepco & Becker center stand on it, I don't know why Suzuki sells the bike with no center stand, cheap I guess. It's a little hard for my wife to get on with the side cases but she managed. I got the GIVI zipper bags that fits into the hard bags to pack stuff in. Also sold the seat on ebay and put a Suzuki gel seat on it, lots better.

I going to make a tool tube out of PVC pipe to put in the empty side opposite the muffler to carry chain lube of fix-a-flat in.

Looks like a nice set-up. My daily driver is also a V-Strom:

No kidding! How much stuff do you really need for 7 days? :D

FWIW, the pic of my Vee was taken in Monument Valley during a 9 day/4000 mile ride. The right side case has all my camping gear, the left case holds my clothes, and the top case is empty. The top case is just there to hold my helmet and jacket when I'm stopped. The small tank box holds my camera, sunglasses, and cell phone.

Yes sir. Tent, ground cloth, sleeping bag, air mattress and pillow, and even a chair! Packed size is my #1 concern when shopping for camping gear. If an item won't fit in my luggage, I wont bring it. Nothing gets strapped to my bike when I travel. Also, I don't bring food or cooking equipment other than a bottle or two of water. It's too bulky and too much hassle.

Yes I do load up, but that is for two people. The DL load is clothes and walking shoes in the saddlebags, rack bag has water, food for Linda (she is Fractose intolerant & can't eat wheat as well), wet weather gear & gloves & tools. Double self inflating matress on top. Tent at the front & sleeping bags on the crash bars. Tank bag has maps & incidentals.

Ride report of that trip is here for anyone interested.

The GT load is similar, but had cooking gear instead of clothes for the over nighter.

Plus 10 on the Strom. I've had mine for coming up on three years this spring, 24,000 miles. Great bike! I've been camping a few times, plus one trip from Houston to Chicago. One of the best biles I've ever ridden.

Seeing as we are on the subject of V strom's has anybody noticed that there using gearbox oil my strom has 18.000km on the clock, bought it with 11.000km after the 12.000 service I’ve put in may be a 0.5 liter of oil. Done a trip to the UK 1.800km started with full on the inspection window and when I got back it was below low. I cleaned the bike and thought maybe there was a leak behind the front sprocket but after further inspections can’t see anything. :?:

My daily rider is an '09 WeeStrom. I have Shad bags and trunk, but I normally leave the side bags off and just use the trunk.
