hello, i talked with eric K about a 550 build. i have a set of 32 mm round slide mikuni carbs that are brand new. i was wondering if anyone has mounted these carbs to a 550 before? they seem rather large. i cant get them to fit.

That would be quite a stretch with stock intake rubbers.

In Reality I think that a 550 has enough carb area for even quite a wild motor. That's not to say that more can't work better but to put it into perspective, a 60HP RZ350 twin gets on fine with a pair of tiny 26mm carbs. The 550 has 28mm carbs and the analysis we did seems to suggest that 28 on a small triple is enough for 80-85HP.

The 750 came with 32mm carbs and the old suggestion was to fit them on a 550 as an upgrade but I'm not convinced there are any real advantages for a street motor.

ok, he didn't really suggest them, i said "hey i have these brand new 32mm carbs would those work?" and said, "those will be perfect.
i am going to fiddle with it. i just gave away the stock carbs to a friend of mine.

Well in that case, they would probably be perfect. Use radiator hose for intakes or machine off the stubs and fit regular Mikuni type inlet rubbers.
