TCE Tommy Crawford 3 in 1 GT 750 comments please!

Post by dyrberg123 »

Garage greatings from Denmark.

Hi i read the thread from dec 8 subject PIPE, starting with a Photo of a 3 in 1 on a kettle. Is there any body who have a clue what the TCE 3 in 1 are performance vise, and if it is possible to have another set made from new, or can tell me where to get a second hand set? Or some info how to get hold of this Tommy. I have used hours to see what i could find out about the TCE but no luck what so ever. I know there have been quite a few treads concerning exhaust gt750, but i would be glad to hear if anybody knew more. I have just bought a gt 750 to build bike and use the many hours in the Winter where we cant be on the streets. Will start thread when i start project. Thanks

Sorry you didnt get the reply you wanted , it possible the TC pipes you are asking about arnt that common so someone that may have one didnt see your question post . It seems the rule that the 3~1 pipes do produce good low to mid range power and do lighten the bike up a bunch over the stock system but it seems the ones that have been tried do limit top end power and rev band but how often do you think you may need top end power ? They do sound good on the 750s and they do provide the best ground clearance unless you can get or weld up a TR type 3~3 system .
the older i get the faster i was

Very interesting, many thanks for this info. I wonder how many of his 3:1s were made..............

I wonder how well they worked compared to some of the other options available.

Until I see facts that disprove it, I'd grab a set of 3 into 3 pipes of the right dimensions and gear the bike for torque., Also raise the Compression and go with larger bores for more pull throughout the rev range.

Thanks TZ, any idea what pistons could be used, if i should increase the cubics? Or are you still within the std + 2mm in your mind?

THANK YOU Richard! I have to believe the ONLY advantages of a 3 into 1 is lighter weight and probably a cheaper replacement for factory exhaust............ Just to cover the bases, as far as snowmobiles are concerned, a 2 into 1 can make good power......a triple cyl with a 3 into 1 is PURELY a cheaper packaging solution, period........

Hi, thanks all.

TZ: about the bores? Are you referring to the std oversize pistons, or do you have anoter option gaining the displacement.?

What i have seen is the stock everything bikes can have pretty good torque if they arnt geared too tall .. add a tooth or 2 on the rear and you could use the GT to pull stumps 8)

Stock bikes are incredibly heavy and make very little HP, but then again, it's an old bike - not a MotoGP replica, so that's maybe a moot point.

In general, more capacity makes more torque, but there are issues on a GT. The liners are cast in place and replacing them with custom liners to go with custom pistons would be a touch expensive. That limits what oversizes can be used to WISECo.

Increasing compression and getting a decent head shape would also help. You can weld up the chambers and machine them concentric to the bores on your barrels. Or have them machined to take inserts like VHM or Banshee big bore type inserts.

Inserts are easier to swap out if you want more, or less, compression but are slightly harder to seal effectively. Again the key to longevity is a correct sized head gasket and heads concentric to the bores.

Use an early JKL block if possible and do not lower the intake floor any more than absolutely necessary to clean up any ragged edges. More intake timing hurts low end performance more than it helps at the top end - until hp is much higher than stock.

Cheapest mod is to get rid of weight. Lighten that fat girl. Put her on a diet.

Or get a skinny one!
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
