no need for that Dave - I've decided to run the standard water pump now so, along with the self-generating ignition system and a self-contained battery powered tachometer and water temp gauge, a 12v on board battery isn't needed.
Unless I've overlooked something.........
What sort of self-generating ignition system are you going to be using??

I am using a HPI system - I've opted for the one that fits on the r/h side of the motor. Just hoping that the ignition rotor relies on the crank taper to remain in place and doesn't need a keyway. I have asked this question to HPI and am awaiting a reply

Wow those HPI systems look really good. Seems they have a large number of upgrades/options to really trick out your ignition tune. Wish I could get one for my 550. Are you going the analogue or digital version??

You mean like this? Braking might be an issue, but the mod would be straightforward (see second pic).

All the pics I've seen seem to have two cylinder engines mounted front/back direction, so it might not work with a triple.
You might like to comment as the pics show lighter bikes with 'space frames'.

Handling 'might' be affected, but the pedals would be OK as you don't appear to have any method of starting the engine on yours.

in readiness for the 17" rear wheel transplant, I set about measuring the standard ride height with the 18" GSXR wheel in situ using a piece of strip plastic

Image

out with Gixxer wheel, in with the Aprilia RS250 wheel and Brembo caliper

Image

not sure if you can see the "bend" in the plastic strip, but I'll make some new, shorter dog bones at work on Monday to restore the ride height to standard.

Image

front wheel to fit tomorrow........
