Re: Pipe.
Many thanks TZ, I knew you would know! I don't have links to either, but the bike is mine. We don't have a dyno over here so the chances of getting some readings are pretty slim!

Re: Pipe.
Ah so.. Now I follow. You bought that pipe off ebay and fitted it to that bike. That makes sense. How are you enjoying the bike?
Mine now has flat drag bars and an air shifter and I'm embarrassing myself at the drag strip with it. I'm also on design 3 of the silencer to shut it up. This time I'm trying an aluminum sleeve to see if that takes some of the resonance (sharp ringing) out of it.
What diameter is that tailpipe and is the muffler core the same diameter or is it one size larger?
I just realized you are in the Channel Isles. I have an ex brother in law down there somewhere.

Re: Pipe.
Loving the bike, but with a 40mph speed limit, I have to be a bit careful...........
What pipe are you using, and what sort of times are you getting?
The tailpipe is about 30mm, and I think that the core is the same. I used to have one with a Piper 3:1 fitted, but could not tell you of any performance differences.
Here's one of me in the early 80s at our local sprint (1/4 mile, but not a straight line!)......raised ports, 36mm S&W Blue magnum carbs, allspeeds and nitrous (which blew the crankshaft seals off).

Re: Pipe.
I have a Strader 3 into 1 for the street that sounds great but is a little loud which is why I'm going to try a different muffler design.
On the strip I use a set of Jemco pipes which make more power than stock pipes or the Strader. I need to learn how to launch off the line harder and then I can start looking for more power. At the moment I'm almost as fast on my stock(ish) RZ350.

Re: Pipe.
Are you guys running over a quarter or an eighth of a mile?.....and what times are you achieving? Interested as I used to drag one of my 500s over an eighth way back in the early 80s.....

Yes, we're 1/4 mile here too, and here's a link to our 'strip'.

They reckon the bend adds half a sec. to your time.
The best I ever did (without nitrous) was just (and I mean just) under 13 secs.

Re: Pipe.
Reaction time plays a part too.....
When I raced the 500, it was over an eighth, and included reaction time. I regularly did 8.6. but have no idea how this would equate to the quarter.
I watched the Ultimate street bike leg at the promenade, Ramsey, Isle of Man, one year, and the 500 air cooled class was won by an RD400 at 8.5.....but the lights were triggered by the bike pulling away, so no reaction time.
Mind you, that was about 1984, and I was probably 6 stone lighter !

Re: Pipe.
My best was 13.1 if I remember correctly with BS40 carbs, JEMCO pipes and slight port clean up.
1/8 mile best so far 8.6 and worst 9.6. Not exactly consistent yet. My reaction times are typically around .22/2.4 but can be worse and managed to redlight last time out.
I'm slow and heavy and so is my bike so I guess we're well suited to each other.
Reaction time is important in terms of who wins or loses, but doesn't make any difference to ET

Worse than 2.4? What does that take, you need to set down your beer first?tz375 wrote: My reaction times are typically around .22/2.4 but can be worse
